For the Birds Art Exhibition at Carrickmines Park

We have installed a new exhibition on our photo benches at Carrickmines Park entitled For the Birds. The exhibition reflects on birds as creatures that are both familiar and extraordinary, from the song of the robin to the remarkable migratory journeys of species such as the Arctic tern, which makes an annual stopover in South Dublin, including Dalkey Island.

Birds have long held a place in Irish storytelling and folklore, appearing in tales such as the Children of Lir, the legend of “Mad” Sweeney, and stories of the wren, celebrated as king of the birds. Bird lore also continues to shape many everyday expressions and ways of thinking. Through a range of artistic responses, the exhibition invites viewers to consider the cultural, symbolic and imaginative role of birds in our lives.

The exhibition features work by Dominique Crowley, Gabhann Dunne, Nicola Henley, Diane Magee, Poppy Melia, Alan Nagle, Kate Plum, John Short, Bex Shelford and Kathy Tynan. There are ten exhibition benches to discover.
